Guide

On NEAR, your wallet doesn't hold tokens or NFTs. Each token is its own contract, and your balance is a line in that contract's storage. Whoever controls the contract controls those lines.

Before you buy60-second checklist
  1. No full-access keys on the contractIt's "locked". Nobody can sign as it to delete it or swap its code.
  2. No upgrade, pause, blacklist or emergency-withdraw functionsOr, if there are, a DAO or multisig you trust controls them.
  3. Code never changed after launchSeveral deploys in the first hours, like KayraPad's three, is a red flag.
  4. Real liquidity, and the dev doesn't own the LPAlso check the top 10 wallets don't hold most of the supply.
  5. Know where your tokens actually liveOn bonding-curve launchpads, your tokens sit inside the pad until they "graduate". If the pad is drained, you can't sell.
How NEAR rugs workThe four ways money disappears
  1. Delete the contractWith a full-access key, the owner can delete the account. Every balance and NFT disappears with it. NEAR blocks deleting contracts that hold a lot of data, so ruggers often wipe the data first.
  2. Swap the codeAn upgradeable contract can get new code that zeroes balances, blocks transfers or moves NFTs to the dev. Watch for exports like upgrade, migrate or set_code.
  3. Drain the potLaunchpads and bonding curves hold everyone's NEAR in one contract. An owner-only emergency_withdraw can empty it, and then every sell fails with "Exceeded the account balance".
  4. Pull liquidity or dumpIf the dev owns the pool's LP shares or a big chunk of supply, they can pull the pool or dump on buyers. The contract never has to change.
Already rugged? What you can still do
  1. Run "Can I recover?"Enter the contract and your wallet. It shows what the contract still records for you, whether it can still pay out, and any refunds you can claim.
  2. Follow the moneyThe report links the account the NEAR went to. Share it publicly so exchanges and other buyers can see it.
  3. Ignore "recovery" offersNo one can reverse a NEAR transaction. Anyone who DMs you offering to get funds back is running a second scam.
Watch out for "recovery" scams. After a rug, fake support accounts and "fund recovery" services DM victims. No one can reverse a NEAR transaction. Never share your seed phrase or private key, and never sign a transaction from a link someone sends you.
